ANAHEIM, Calif. — Marvel Studios has officially unveiled the principal cast of its highly anticipated new X-Men movie, bringing a new generation of mutants into the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
The announcement came during Disney’s D23 Entertainment Showcase, where Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige introduced the cast of the upcoming film. Sadie Sink will play the iconic mutant Jean Grey, while Adam Driver has been cast as the film’s major villain, Mister Sinister.
The film is scheduled to arrive in theaters on May 5, 2028, although the release date could potentially change as production progresses. It will be directed by Jake Schreier, with a screenplay from Lee Sung Jin and Joanna Calo.
Sadie Sink Takes on Jean Grey
Sink, best known internationally for her role as Max Mayfield in Stranger Things, will take on one of the most important characters in X-Men history.
Jean Grey is a powerful telepath and telekinetic whose comic-book history includes some of Marvel’s most famous storylines, particularly the Dark Phoenix saga. Sink has already been introduced as Jean Grey in Spider-Man: Brand New Day, establishing an early connection between the character and the wider MCU.
The role gives Sink an opportunity to move from a successful television career into one of Hollywood’s biggest superhero franchises.
Adam Driver Joins Marvel as Mister Sinister
Driver will play Nathaniel Essex, better known as Mister Sinister, a brilliant geneticist and longtime X-Men villain.
The character is obsessed with mutant evolution and has played a major role in several X-Men comic-book storylines. Driver’s casting is particularly notable because Mister Sinister has never previously been portrayed as a major live-action villain in an X-Men feature film.
Driver is already familiar to blockbuster audiences through his role as Kylo Ren in the Star Wars sequel trilogy. His acclaimed dramatic performances, including in Marriage Story, have also established him as one of Hollywood’s most versatile leading actors.
His casting could give Mister Sinister a more complex and potentially darker personality than audiences might expect from a conventional comic-book villain.
